GFHS is committed to providing care for the whole family  and the overall health needs of the whole patient.   Adult and pediatric medical services are often co-located with dental  practices or are conveniently located nearby,  and behavioral health services are offered at all medical locations.  GFHS is a healthcare home of choice for its patients.

More detailed information about GFHS’ integrated services and programs such as behavioral health counseling,  pharmacies, medication assistance programs, interpretation assistance,  after-hours medical advice line, specialty referrals, clinics and education programs for diabetes, nutrition and vision care, to name a few, can be found under the SERVICES tab on this website.

Additional Dental Programs

ACCESS Dental Program

GFHS’ ACCESS dental program has partnered with Title 1 elementary schools and the Head Start program in Gaston County since 2000, providing dental care to school children otherwise unlikely to receive it.  In Gaston County, children are bussed to clinics during school hours, where they receive oral health education, preventative care, examinations and treatment.  All care is provided at no cost to the patient.  Building on this success, the program expanded to  Iredell County in 2009.

GFHS’ new Mobile Dental Unit (MDU) takes the Dental Access Program to a new level, bringing full-service dental care right to participating elementary schools, thus minimizing students’ time away from class.  Named GFHSmiles, the three-chair unit is equipped with X-ray (including panagraph) capability and will be fully staffed with a dentist and three dental assistants, to expand GFHS’ Dental Access Program to schools  in Iredell and Catawba Counties starting in Fall 2017.   When not serving the schools, the MDU will operate serving as a static dental site at GFHS’ Helping Hands Health Center in Lincolnton starting in 2018.

Childhood Health Outreach Program (CHOP)

The CHOP program works to integrate medical and dental services for GFHS’ patients, and coordinates access to dental care for children served through the Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services’ WIC and Child Health clinics.  Through educational literature, on-site advice and appointment services, patients are educated on dental services offered, and are assisted in obtaining care in a seamless, convenient manner.
