Parish Nursing
Parish nursing is an idea born out of the understanding of the healing ministry of the church and the need to return to health care that focuses on the whole person to emphasize wellness, disease prevention, and health promotion. A parish nurse is a registered nurse with additional training who serves members of the congregation and often people in the community as well.
Since 1999, GFHS has worked with the Gaston Community Healthcare Commission to provide this service to our community. A Gastonia program funded by local churches has been in operation since 2001. In 2009, a County Volunteer Program was established within the Spiritual Care Office at CaroMont. Both of these programs began with seed funding from the Duke Endowment.
