From inception, GFHS has worked to offer the broadest set of services to address patient needs and eliminate health status disparities. Staff and management recognize that in caring for our target population, GFHS must also address the higher health risks that arise from low incomes, lower literacy skills, higher rates of mental illness and substance abuse, and the lack of resources for housing, good nutrition, transportation, and family support. It is not enough to provide a primary care clinic to address health needs without considering the additional need for education, prevention, and support services. In developing special support programs, GFHS has demonstrated its commitment to addressing these disparities.
